Description
Rises on the western slope of Nandewar Range near Old Man Mountain. It flows generally south for about 16 km and then flows west to its junction with the Namoi River about 13 km north by west of Boggabri. A perennial stream its waters disappear in places beneath the gravels. Its total length being about 55 km.
Origin
Named by Sir Thomas Mitchell on 19 December 1831 during his first expedition in search of the River Kindur. Dec. 19 1831 We left the ground at six a.m. and in an hour and a half arrived at the stream of the valley which I now named Maules River. (T.L.
