Drifters Gully (GULLY), NSW Details
History
Name proposed in 1997 by Mrs Margaret Pontifex a retired school teacher through the Mangrove Mountain Districts Community Group.
Description
A gully 200 m in length which rises 6.2 km E by S of Croft Trigonometrical Station and flows in an easterly direction into Ironbark Creek.
Origin
Over the years many drifters have lived in the area. They were colourful people like the gypies of earlier days and included ex-Vietnam veterans and people who had previously been in prison or mental hospitals. They stayed only for a short time. The name commemorates them. (Oral history Mrs Pontifex retired teacher 1997)
