History
On 13-08-1827 Colonial Secretary Alexander McLeay offered a reward for the discovery of a road to avoid mounts York and Blaxland. Hume discovered a route and the Darling Causeway.
Description
A ridge being that section of the Blue Mountains Range from its junction with the Bell Range in the north at Bell southwards for about 9km to the Great Western Highway at Mount Victoria. It is traversed by the Main Western Railway and Main Road 184 and is the divide between the Grose River in the east and the River Lett in the west.
Origin
Named by Hamilton Hume in 1827 during an exploration to locate an easier route off the mountains than the road via Mount York. It was so named he said as he had discovered it during General Darlings Administration and my going out under His Excellencys patronage.
